The six-month trial is a joint initiative between the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) and Redland City Council, with the support of Council of Mayors SEQ. It is operating on a 3.8 kilometre fixed loop route, co-ordinated with ferry arrivals where passengers can hop on or off at one of eight bus stops along the route.

EasyMile has announced that its autonomous vehicle on Karragarra Island in Queensland is the first-ever driverless service to connect with a public ferry terminal.

This announcement comes just months after Australia’s Redland City Council and Queensland, Australia’s peak motoring body, the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ), announced Karragarra Island on Redlands Coast as the first location in Queensland to test a driverless bus

The round is led by two U.S. firms, Blue Lagoon Capital and TransLink Capital, with the participation of Series A investors Road Ventures, Partech, Groupe ADP, Airbus Ventures, Serena and others.

Blue Lagoon Capital, based in Washington DC, is a venture capital firm that invests in a limited number of companies where its principals actively lend their operational expertise. Translink Capital in Palo Alto invests in expansion stage technology startups and helps them develop strategic partnerships in Asia. Translink’s investment is from its strategic funds with both SOMPO, one of the largest Japanese insurance company, and Japan Airlines.

Union Grove Venture Partners participated in the round, along with existing investors including Insight Venture Partners, Global Founders Capital, OCA Ventures, AutoTech Ventures and others. The new capital will be used to accelerate marketplace growth, expand the digital platform for the parking industry, strengthen partnerships with leading mobility companies, and deepen SpotHero’s technology stack to standardize and optimize access to parking throughout North America.

SpotHero is driving the digital transformation of the $20B off-street parking industry with hardware and software solutions aimed at drivers, parking operators and property owners, and mobility partners.
